Well we just got home from our annual Joe Christmas dinner. As usual we were both silent on the long ride home. Feeling tremendously selfish and whiny for all the complaining we do; when we have such a ridiculously wonderful life going on. These dinners are very humbling.
Before we got to the “One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest” type facility thet Joe lives in we talked about the Christmas that we took him out when he was still living alone in his little shack and we were afraid that he was so lonely and depressed that we might not see him the next year.
The odds of Joe and Yvonne still being together in the little fringe world that they live in is very slim. Way too many things could go wrong, Like any relationship I suppose.
So we turn into the driveway to pick him up. I was actually nervous because I didn’t, or maybe selfishly didn’t want to, know to handle to a lonely Joe again.
BUT, against all odds,we could see the silhouettes of TWO people anxiously waiting for us.
Merry Christmas and Hallelujah!
They were so exicted to be going out and we were so happy to see them together. Just like any old couple at dinner; she told him what and what not to eat and cut his meat for him because his hands tremble so now. She bubbled on and on and has the most positive outlook of anyone I know.
Here is the best part....they are sharing a room together now and are very proud because they have their own bathroom! Joe has not lived with anyone since his abusive parents died.
After dinner and our annual trip to Dollar General to let them shop, they wanted to show us their room so we went inside their building and they were as proud as any couple showing off their home. It was neat and clean and she had it decorated for Christmas.
I told Joe that I was so happy that they are still together and he said to me, as serious as any 16 year old declaring his undieing loyalty to a first love, that they will together forever.
After hugs we left them smiling and happy together and boy did this make mine and Dave’s Christmas !
